Altair SLC Hub overview

The Altair SLC Hub software consists of a number of software services that perform the Altair SLC Hub functionality, an SQL database to store data, and an object store to store large object data.

Currently, Hub software services are all required to run on the same machine, but the architecture supports running replica sets of these services in a clustered environment for availability and scalability. If you are interested in this future clustered functionality contact Altair Support.

Altair SLC Hub Worker overview

For some functionality, a single machine running the Altair SLC Hub software is sufficient. Some functionality requires that one or more worker nodes be installed and added to the Altair SLC Hub to form a cluster. The worker nodes are where the Altair SLC workloads are executed. This ensures that those workloads do not interfere with the operation or stability of the main Altair SLC Hub services.

An Altair SLC Hub worker consists of a small piece of Altair SLC Hub agent software and an Altair SLC installation. In addition, workers need to be added to the Altair SLC Hub cluster using a registration process. During the registration process, TLS certificates are generated so that all network traffic between the central Hub machine and the worker machines is secured using mutual TLS.
